After I learned to enter sleep paralisis I had only one incident like that. If you could move your body than it's probably something completely different.I woke up in sleep paralisis in the middle of the night. I tried to get out of it as soon as possible. One technique that I know is to focus all of your will on moving just one of your limbs. It can even take up to about 30 seconds before it works. When you snap out of it get out of your bed, and wake yourself up. It's possible to slip right back into it if you just lay down and relax. I know because I got into sleep paralisis like 3 times that night. The most important question is: were you paralised?
Then that's definitely not sleep paralisis. From what I know lack of sleep can cause hallucinations in extreme cases. I had an episode in my life, more than half a year, when I had problems with sleep. Obviously I couldn't really meditate back then. My thoughts were constantly going, it was crazy. My record is 72 hours without any sleep. I had a job then, and was lucky I wasn't fired because I looked like a walking misery. On the other hand, I think I would be lucky if they fired me because that job was a nightmare. I quitted it myself later. I really didn't have any halucinations. Maybe some weird sparks when I closed my eyes. And of course, I was light-headed as hell.
I've always wanted to try meditation. Problem is I can't get any peace and calmness to last for more than an hour to actually try it out, so anybody interrupting me usually threw off my prior attempts.
