The first discussion of this fan film. What should the fan film be about?

Well obviously Klonoa. :P

But as far as that goes, what should Klonoa face off against? Perhaps dreams vs. reality?

Sounds very nice. :3

I really wish I could animate or be of any help, I'm still learning how to do 3D rendering myself, it'll be a while before I can do any animation.

I would suggest something for Klonoa to fight for, not something that would inflict internal distress. Internal distress does not resonate well with a lot of people...kinda like the Superman comics...people either love them or are bored because they can't relate well enough.

Imo I would say to first remove everything that ties this new story to previous stories. Only bring a memory/call-back if an event or story decision would be driven more effectively by a twist in the character based on a previous experience. This does not mean to avoid reusing old elements which were personally felt as effective or essential story elements (ie: 'heart-string' material). The bond Klonoa shared with Hewpoe, Lolo and KoS made the entirety of the stories come together in the end though it may have felt uneventful, lackluster or cheesy until the heartstrings were pulled. (yes Klonoa had bond connection to KoS but it was in a 'white knight' scenario and not a risk of loss). The new story may be a cookie-cutter story but it will work and the experience of making the first film is invaluable to improvement.

Both DtP and LV had Klonoa situated in a doomsday scenario with only himself as the most effective way of solving the problem. Lolo had capabilities but was personally unsure about herself and relied on the prophecy of Klonoa to empower her; though Klonoa himself was not too keen on carrying weight from a world that was more or less alien to him (unlike DtP in which he fully believed he lived there due to brainwashing).

In the long run Klonoa needs to be confronted with the ultimate despair. In terms of cookie-cutter, Klonoa needs to save the world from being destroyed as the main bulk of the story but what truly affects his heart, and the main purpose of the story, are the underlying characters whom suddenly yank at his heart at the very end. DtP was losing a friend; LV was being confronted with a Person who was at the lowest low of their very soul. If the story is to land as a Klonoa story it needs to provide the viewer a reason to care for something without directly telling the viewer. Provide a destructive source whether mysteriously located or obvious to give a general plot for characters to attach themselves to the viewer and Klonoa. Then at the very end Klonoa must confront the ultimate end that does not necessarily have anything to do with the destructive power (ie: the heartstring moment at DtP which made the story whole really had nothing to do with the destructive source; it merely made the inevitable heart string moment happen).

I will think about a cookie-cutter story and characters. It may take me some time as I work 40-50 hour weeks but maybe I'll get hit with a vision.

Maybe for the fan film, it could be like an animated version or continuation of the Klonoa Manga(Shippuu Tengoku Kaze no Klonoa, is what it's called I think). I think it would be a good idea, because the scenarios are rather easily set up in each episode, because they don't need a deep plot, or confusing conflict.

I have read that manga it seems to be extremly un-canon and making Klonoa an idiot hero doesn't seem like such a good idea. The manga looks like a parody of Klonoa.

Yeah, I guess the Manga really was just comical, with no other purpose other than to entertain the readers.
