I've had that thought of the kingdoms of Lunatea representing the Kubler-Ross model of dealing with grief myself. Joliant is Denial, Mira Mira is Bargaining, Volk is Anger, Hyuponia is Depression, and La-Lakoosha is Acceptance.

Though the stages are a bit out of order in the game itself. I'm not really sure if Phantomile has a set up like that other than 5 Kingdoms/Towns and the such.
I've been thinking of something similar to that for a while; that maybe the King of Sorrow is Huepow as he appears in Lunatea. I think that Huepow felt guilty for having used Klonoa, to the point where he may have isolated himself, thus appearing in Lunatea as the King of Sorrow
Gotta disagree on the King being Huepow. They're even seen side-by-side in a (very cute) official wallpaper.
Anyone got a picture of Huepow's full form from the original/wiimake? I want to compare them with KoS, since I believe someone said there's some resemblance in that and the King.
