It isn't attempting to reflect anything from the real world other than being WWII-inspired. It's a very gripping story when you combine all three Little Tail titles, and I recommend trying it some more. There are a lot of light hearted moments the more you play through the game too.

edit: If it helps any, try out Tail Concerto or Solatorobo instead. They're much more in the cheery anime angle.

Eh yeah try other games. But on the other hand sometimes just facing the harshness of certain realities through a game can help overcome that too. [/size]
As for apathy there is always trying to overcome it with perseverance.
