So, I was looking for some news regarding a potential English patch for Klonoa Heroes, and what I found was that Twitter user @vervalkon was working on one where both the story and in-game graphics would be in English.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's been any activity on it since June of 2020, and a lot of the story and villager dialogue still needs to be translated. In addition, there's several still images that will need to have English text overlaid on them.

I don't know Japanese, so I won't be able to help out much; however, there's a translation guide on GameFAQs that should be able to help us out with translating the rest of the dialogue: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gba/562268-klonoa-heroes/faqs/73653.

So, my question is, is there anyone else on this forum who can help out with this project, or knows someone who can? Information about the remaining work that needs to be done can be found here: https://klonoa-at-blog.tumblr.com/post/621015359827345408/calling-all-translators.

Thank you in advance.

Not to be a debbie downer, but I think calling for help here isn't going to yield great results. The one and only time we had serious progress being made the entire thing was dropped like a rock. Nobody was bothering to help Vervalkon either which is even more upsetting.

In the Klonoa Mega Chat there's slightly more progress on this though keep in mind that last time I was there, only two or three people were making slow progress. Might be worth checking there instead. But I'm pretty positive focus shifted to hacking Klonoa 2.

As a long time super-fan, I can admit this fandom will be very unhelpful in translating Klonoa Heroes. Either people are simply just not equipped for the task or they'll grow tired of the work and ghost. The best thing you can do is learn the skills needed for this project and do all that you can by yourself.

This wouldn't be a problem if this game got an English release instead of the beach volleyball game. Good job on that Namco! Nah, I'd just stop worrying about it if I were you. I really like Klonoa Heroes myself, well, at least from the limited experience of an unfinished fan translation with a GameFaqs guide, but I still don't think it's SUCH an exceptional game that everyone needs to drop everything they're doing to play. And you never know, maybe an official translation will happen someday. It sounds unreasonable, but crazier things have happened.

If a fan translation really is something that one really cares about and really wants to work on (really), than I'd go for it. I've never attempted to translate anything, and I wasn't exactly in the community at all while this was first getting started, so I don't want to assume for a second that I understand the workload of translating a game, but I think it's fairly safe to say that it takes a lot out of anyone to hack the game and fully translate menus, UI, effects with text, and obviously dialogue. I just bring this up to say that we probably shouldn't make too big of a deal out of it. I'm sorry if this comes across as being overtly against the idea of a full English patch, because I'm not. I really just don't want to see another small team band together to spend months on a big project like this.

Alright, well... thanks anyway.

Luckily, I was able to find a guide on GameFAQs that has the game's story script, locations, and item descriptions translated; https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gba/562268-klonoa-heroes/faqs/73653

I just need to manually translate townspeople interactions and enemy descriptions. I may have to use a mix of Google Translate and gameplay experience for this, though.
