What is KLONOA's Species?!
« Reply #10 on: June 17, 2014, 02:15:48 pm »
Let me emphasize this again - what I said is my very own subjective view.

To me, Klonoa is not something anthropomorphic at all. I see him as a real resident of another world for "the adventure we had". What he looks is what "humans in another world" would be.
Sounds crazy, huh? But that's my reason to not call Klonoa a cat, a rabbit or something between the two. (Hmm, what if I'm just allergic to the name "cabbit"?)
Maybe each tribe of Phantomile have its unique species name, maybe not - then what's the point argue about it? It seems the development team didn't give us a defined answer intentionally, so do really need one? Isn't it more intriguing to let everyone find their own answer?

These are my strange feelings. I hope I've made myself clear. Once again - don't be too serious.

But it dosen't mean "boy" becomes a human instantly Posted Image, they might meant about he is male :)

Unchanging? but dosen't Phantomille makes more sense than Unknown?
Well, you are right. But don't deny the possibility ;3 Remember what I said? He might be a "human of another world".

Yeah...Phantomilian does makes more sense than "unknown" while being enough obscure, though it's not an ideal one to me; however, it's hard to find a real good one unless we ask the creators.
(OH Mother of Mercy. Who put the "species" property in the Wiki?)

Klonoa is a thing!
Lets find more things!
There I'm satisfied.
I really don't know what to pin him down as outside of chimeric thing considering the various features.
I'll be using a drunk Ghadius as a shield before someone shoots me for calling Klonoa thing now.

I recall seeing a written article from Yoshihiko Arai himself from around the time of the remake where he said he didn't really intend Klonoa to be anything. Now whether or not that's the case in-story is up for debate since Arai is merely an artist, but I trust what he says.

In the original Japanese version, Klonoa is described as "少年". People usually don't call non-human creatures other than fantasy ones (for example, being made of machinery) "少年".
I recommend it's the best to delete "unknown" and leave it "undefined" instead. Also it would be good to write something like "the answer is up to your imagination" and remove the "species" property.

According to Hideo Yoshizawa's Klonoa blog on IGN a few years ago, they basically said its up to the player's own intepretation.

So with that, to me, he's simply a long-eared, short-tailed cat. I say this because his face resembles one of those cat breeds with the white muzzle and the patch in-between the eyes. And plus, the way Kumiko Watanabe voices him sounds pretty cat-like to me, so... yeah.

I can't remember what I personally had to say on this, but I always viewed Klonoa as a cat with overly long ears. He definitely has more cat than rabbit traits beyond me, especially the sharp teeth that Klonoa has in the FMV's of Door to Phantomile whenever they're shown.
